Change Me O’ Lord, Make Me More Like You.
Let us remember David’s prayer this morning, when we believe in our heart, like Peter, we won’t ever deny (disobey) Jesus. The heart is deceitful, who can really know it besides the one who created it. God is the only one who can search the heart and know its thoughts.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 KJV
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
In the scriptures before, Psalm 139: 23-24, David shared how he hates those who hate God. Whomever turns themselves against God, he does not respect.
Psalms 139:20-21 EASY
“Those people say bad things against you, God. Your enemies always tell lies. Lord, I hate those people who hate you. I do not respect those who turn against you.”
David made it very clear with perfect hatred, that he counted God’s enemies as his own.
Psalm 139:22 KJV
“I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.”
But see, David didn’t conclude there. With humility in his heart, he then turned his focus on himself, asking God to search his own heart for any evil he, himself may not be aware of.
The KJV says it like this,
Psalm 139:23-24 KJV
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
We must do the same as David did. It isn’t enough to just say, we are on the Lord’s side. We need to seek and ask God to search our heart, allowing him to tell us if we are indeed in or out of alignment with him. We must also humble ourselves daily before the Lord. This is imperative to fully receive his answer that will come through loving correction, forgiveness, and guidance.
As we remember David’s prayer we must also remember to remain humble on our walk with Christ. Our new life in Christ requires humility at all times.
The word of God is God and will never pass away. Therefore, the prayers of his faithful servants are God breathed, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and they too will never die.
Matthew 24:35 KJV
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Let’s us all begin to humbly pray David’s prayer daily, allowing God to create in us a clean heart.
Psalm 51:10 KJV
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.”
